A memory from the time of Russian in Afghanistan:
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

A memory from the time of Russian in Afghanistan:
My mother aunt who was very old came to visit us. She stayed for few days then wanted to visit my mother sister (her niece) who was living in another village. After few days we heard that the house of my mother’s sister was destroyed by a projectile thrown by Russian soldiers and the all household was martyred including the aunt.
Story of that:
It was evening; Russian helicopters were taking down the soldiers on the mountain of that village (where the house was located). Projectiles were thrown by them from a very far place and were hitting this and that point. All young men of the village escaped and let their families, children and houses for their women and elders. The husband of my aunt (mother sister) advised his wife to stay near to the corral and in case of danger inter to that and he horridly left his house. He might have been on the way that a projectile came and hit the point where my aunt (mother sister) and her children gathered scarcely waiting to inter to the corral. The aunt (mother sister), her two daughters and three sons and the aunt become und the house. All people have heard the thud but did not understand where it was, because they all were in corrals or a safe room. But the old women of the neighboring house quickly hit ears of the people that all household of Mr. Shereen killed and they are under walls and ceilings. Elders and women horridly run to help and to take out the bodies. Rahela, Jameela, Salam, Ibraheem and two years sheen are martyred but only the mother in-law is still alive.
Tomorrow evening the situation became bit normal and some people returned back. Mr. Shereen also intended to return. He took the way of his village and was slowly walking toward his family, thinking in the situation “up which time we will be under this situation! Up to which time we all and the country will be in fire!?....”. He turned to his orchard and extended his hand to one of the branches of an apricot tree whose apricots were sweaty. Just five apricots felled down in his hand. He looked to the five apricots and became surprised “why they felled down at once in my hand!” he whispered. Came out from the orchard and started walking dolefully to his house and having the apricots one by one and each apricot stops in his neck and he swallows each one difficultly. He did not finish the apricots while reached and saw his father is stood, with help of stick, in front of the destroyed gate of the house entertaining himself with weeping. He horridly asked his father, why dad!!!!!! what happened! His father said you can see!!!! Here he realized why five apricots came to his hand and why each one stopped in his neck.

Lost of whole family in one day ( Story)

Lost of whole family in one day
aminwardak@gmail.com
They have lived in a very small house in Peshawar surviving their refugee live in the neighboring country.
Their three daughter and two sons always keep them pleased and optimistic. They were counting the moments when they will return to their homeland. The father was waking up in the early morning to go and stand on the near roadside for laboring. Sometimes he could find work and sometimes he was returning to his home with empty hands. Illnesses of his children and wife were another disturbance for Ahmad to be busy with them and avoid him from going to laboring.
Today his wife, while she was groaning from sore pain of back and belly, faced him desperately with a faded face,” Several times I told you that I am suffering an illness, once you might be free of me”, she said. He shocked and replied sadly,” Let me ask the neighbor for money, because I do not have even 1 Rs in my pocket”. He said. Having found money, he came and asked his women, “ We can not rent a taxi, lets leave the children here and lock the door. We will return as soon as possible”. They locked the door and left their children at home, even though they all were crying after them. When the doctor saw the woman, she kept on blaming the husband and said,” where were you when your wife got this disease at the first time? You have slept till now and now you brought me a dying woman to treat it!”
Ahmad got extremely sad, and shaked his head admitting the mistake but what he could do with empty hands and pockets. He blamed his luck and said with himself,” My empty hands! You are my enemy”. He said to the doctor “yes, madam! You are right but hope to do something now for rescuing of my wife”. After checking the sick, she asked the husband to bring some medicine from outside very soon. While he was swiftly looking to find it in a cheaper shop, the police tracked and detained him. He couldn’t help screaming as his sick wife and the doctor were waiting either left a sick in an emergency condition or yelling children at home.
His most screaming made the police suspect more about him and put him in jail and asked for thorough investigations. Although he yelled that his sick will be dyed and his children are locked at home and there is no one feed him but none listened to him.
Doctor and the wife were looking for him to bring medicine but there was neither medicine nor Ahmad himself.
Three days passed, Ahmad was considered innocent and released from the jail. First he ran to his home to see his children. House was quite calm, just some birds were chirping and dusts have covered everything. The door was locked as he did three days ago. His heart got tremor and asked o Allah I asked for kind! Having opened the door he saw all his children laying next to each other and left the world for good. He never remembered how he reached to the hospital to see about her wife, he saw that his wife is also submitted her soul to her lord.

Dispute between The Ministry of Information and Culture and Tolo TV
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Dispute between The Ministry of Information and Culture and Tolo TV

According to the direction of Ministry of Information and Culture Tolo, Noorin, Ariana and Afghan televisions were supposed to stop broadcasting of Indian serials on Tuesday, 3rd of Swar 1378 (May-2008). So far, Ariana and Noorin obeyed the request and suspended broadcasting of these serials (soap operas) and it is said that Afghan television also promised to stop broadcasting of the serial. Only Tolo is opposing direction of The Ministry of Information and Culture and now it is seen that only Tolo struggles and disobeys the rules issued by the ministry.
Officials of Tolo television have already said that this direction is against the law of mass media and they do not have decision to obey it.
Meanwhile, President Hamed karzai supported direction of the ministry and said; however he believes on freedom of press and respects the rules of mass media but televisions should broadcast according to the culture and standards of the community.
It is understood from the president speech that the government really wants to stop broadcasting of some Indian serials and it is seen that it will implement its decision.
There is no doubt that the content of most serials broadcasted by Afghan televisions apparently does not match mentality and traditional standards of Afghanistan, but it is also obvious that these serials have millions of audiences throughout Afghanistan. They enthusiastically follow the attractive stories and events of these serials. Two serials (exam of life) and (Once mother in law also was bride) are broadcasting from Tolo television. Both these two serials have large number of audiences even in very remote areas and provinces. Even so conservative people watch them.
One of Kabul residents who recently returned from visiting of his relatives in Khost province has said that even over-age people who do not know Dari well, they regularly watch (Once mother in law also was bride) and appreciate the acting of Tolsi who is known as the best actress of the serial.
As there are no possibilities and facilities of rest and fun in Afghanistan, the popularity of these serials among young generation has been increased to the highest level, thus it might be a kind of calamity for the young living in cities to stop broadcasting of such serials.
Now it is the question, however, these serials along with their pictures and senses which are counted against the culture and standards of the community in Afghanistan, why do they have audiences in the country? And why millions of people sit down in front of their televisions and eagerly follow events of these serials?
Is the mentality morale of the community and mentality morale of families and individuals are different?
Popularity of these serials says; yes, the mentality morale of our community is fully against which the people want for themselves. People want to see and look at recent pictures of life of other nations and communities, but our mentality morale orders not see or watch pictures and senses of any other rather then afghan and Afghanistan related images.
It is obvious that all over the world there is no any place to prepare video programs that match with culture and moral standards of Afghanistan. Even our two neighboring countries; Pakistan and Iran that we have closed historical and cultural relations with them, but their films and video programs do not match with culture and mentality morale of our community, because films and videos of these countries show pictures of pretty girls and women which are not watch-able in the term of afghan culture.
Meanwhile, film and video production of Afghanistan is suffering from different qualitative and quantitative problems which really can not response to the necessities of 14 televisions in the country.
So what should be done with such situation?
In response we can say that all televisions of Afghanistan specially those which are required to stop broadcasting of serials. First they should increase their attempt and censor those parts of the serial which show some naked parts of women’s body or shows parts which are called preaching to idolatry or show senses which opposed chastity such as aggressing to women.
Secondly, all televisions should ask the Ministry of Information and Culture and all who count themselves protectors of culture and moral of the community to specify mentality morale of the community to understand all television what is against these standards. On the other hand televisions should not utilize the opportunity and hit other competitive televisions by getting closed to the Ministry.
It is also clear that The Ministry of Information and Culture and the government of Afghanistan pretending the request of scholar council and wants to oblige Tolo television to accept their requirements, because the government is scared of influence of Tolo upon public attitude. Also it fears that this television always discloses weaknesses of the government.
It is usual all over the world; weather any media violation from the regulations of media. Related organizations or individuals complain to the court. The court makes decision and then the accused media might be convicted with punishment and it should apologize or it might be absolved according to the court decision.
Therefore, the Minister of Information and Culture was supposed not to issue a decree to stop broadcasting serials.
As he – Minister of information and culture- had completed his studies in France and lived in western environment, how he forgets what he has studied in France and acts as a minister of communist regime. It would not be better for him to assign one of his departments to complain to the court about Tolo and solve the problem through court?

Finally, if Tolo does not stop broadcasting of the serials (soap operas), the government has two options, arrests officials of Tolo or refers to the court.
According to the current situation, the government may choose the first option. If the government did not do this by itself, it may stimulate some people to protest against Tolo. If so, incidents will accord that may not be for the benefit of afghan nation and as well international protectors of press freedom will also interfere in the event.

Distribution of hope
Translated By:
Aminullah “Adel”
aminwardak@gmail.com

It is said that because of a deadly sickness two patients in a hospital, were passing their nights and days. They were suffering from the same sickness. One of them was allowed to sit up just for an hour on his bed; on the other hand, he was lucky enough because his bed was closed to the only window in the room through which he could see out side. The second patient was unable to sit straight on his bed even for a moment, so he was lying on his bed just looking a part of the ceiling upon his head. Although they could not see each other, they always had tough discussions and friendly talks. By passage of time, such friendly and continuous discussions made them closed friends. They were lying down on their beds talking lovely and friendly about their pasts; childhood, young hood and their families. Thus, they recalled their past stories, events and whatever they had seen, hared and experienced.

Every evening, the first patient used to sit straight on his bed and look outside through the only window whose luck had bestowed him. He was looking at anything which was visible in the yard’s vicinity.
The second patient who was counting the moments was also eagerly waiting for the evening to come; he was impatiently wondering when he would approach the auspicious moments of the evening when whose friend would talk with him about outside… Those hours used to animate his sprit and grant him the desire and hope for life. He was fully enjoying his friend’s talks about anything that happened outside the room.

Having talks about outside was really exciting for the second patient; according to the words of the sitting person, there was a wide nice-looking garden that had different kinds of colorful trees, and was filled with flowers and good-looking grasses, a beautiful river was flowing across the garden; boats were moving here and there, children were playing; some of them were playing inside water pushing and pulling each other and making noises, and their voice drew people’s attention. There was a person photographing the children and playing with them. Some groups of pretty women were walking in the pavements inside the garden; some holding their babies and some holding hands of their husbands and friends, were walking should by shoulder. Their laughter could give life to death people if they could hear them! There were some groups of young people sitting under the cool shadow of trees…the blue sky was boasting itself for it was covering the universe and protecting them from the hot sun.
In this way, the patients were busy sharing feelings; one of them was illustrating every thing and the second one was listing to him. Infect, the words could anoint the second patient and govern his heart, the words were gradually reviving the dimmed wishes and hopes of the second person and he was extremely enjoying hearing words about nature and its beauty….

One day, the sitting friend began talking about a parade, he was expressing how the soldiers had been exhibiting their power to people, even tough the second one was unable to see the scene and hear the sound of the national anthem, but he was mentally feeling and perceiving the event to the depth of his heart and enjoying it very well.
Many days and weeks passed and both patients felt comfortable with each other. One day as usual a nurse came into their room, she checked the first patient and saw that the patient who was closed to window, had died, his passion had flown and he had left this world, but his friend had not known this until he heard the nurse’s voice talking on the telephone to the director of the hospital and informing him of the death person and asking him for direction. Understanding this, he really felt shocked and felt upset!!

When he found a suitable opportunity, he asked the nurse to shift him to his friend’s bed and she accepted his request. On his friend’s bed, he was waiting for the evening. He cried too much when he remembered previous evenings with his closed friend. Although he attempted to sit up on his bed to see what was happing outside and celebrate passed evenings, he could not do so. He reclined on the wall, and turned his face around to the window so as to see what was happening outside!

He saw nothing, he looked again, closed and opened his eyes many times, but nothing appeared to him! He just saw the hospital’s wall and the window which was open toward the hospital’s yard!! He was surprised about what he was seeing, he was wondering where the garden was! Where was the river and where was the dynamic life which was there before?!? He called the nurse and asked her if there was any garden or river, she said that there was nothing without wall. This was the same window through which his friend was looking outside, but now he could see nothing outside! The nurse asked about the reason of the patient’s surprise and he uttered the story of his friend. Hearing the story, the nurse became astonished and was wondering that even though the first patient had been blind, he could not even see the window, how and why had he told such words for his friend?!
